Create your very own Statue of Liberty!
Craft Project Directions: To make this project you will need a bottle (juice bottle or plastic soda bottle with a bit of a neck), white tissue paper, tape, a couple of craft sticks, several pipe cleaners, aluminum foil, a piece of white paper, and a piece of yellow paper, scissors, and markers. First take two craft sticks and tape them together end to end and then tape them to the side of the bottle so the top of craft stick reaches a few inches above the top of the bottle. This will be the arm of the statue which holds the torch. Next take a pipe cleaner and tape one third of it to opposite side of the bottle and double up the remaining 2/3s and position at an angle to the bottle. This will be the arm that holds the book. Now take another craft stick which will fit inside the head of the bottle. Mold a sheet of foil into a ball on the top of the stick to create a head for the statue and wrap it in white tissue paper. Set aside. Now cover the bottle and arms you just created with white tissue paper and tape. Leave a bunch at the top of the extended arm to form the base of the torch. Next create head decoration for the statue. Take a pipe cleaner and cut it in half and curve it to form a crown that will fit on the head you created earlier. You may have to trim it further. Then take another pipe cleaner and cut it into tiny pieces and wind them around the curved piece to create spikes pointing out at an angle. Secure on the top of the head. Add facial features with markers and other materials. Next cut out a tiny yellow flame and small white book from your paper. Attach the tiny flame to the top of the torch and place the book in the arm. Now take several pieces of white tissue and drape the statue. Add further decoration if you wish and place your creation somewhere special.
