Abenaki ![]() The Abenaki - 'Dawn Land People' - lived in the Northeast United States along the Atlantic coast in parts of Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire, as well as in parts of Canada. They built and lived in birchbark dwellings called longhouses or wigwams. They also built birchbark canoes and were known for their black ash baskets and quillwork. They hunted, fished, collected maple sugar sap, and grew corn and tobacco. There were two distinct Abenaki tribes, the Western Abenaki and the Eastern Abenaki. More from Wikipedia |
