Harriet Tubman was an escaped slave and African American abolitionist who rescued over 300 slaves and brought them to freedom utilizing the secret routes of the Underground Railroad. She was known as the 'Moses of Her People'. She was born around 1820 in Maryland and fled to freedom in Philadelphia in 1849. She became a lasting symbol of the American anti-slavery movement.
