Quilting is a method of sewing together layers of cloth, fabric, and insulating material like cotton, down, or wool to create blankets, bedcovers, wall hangings, or folk art. The sewing can be done either by hand or by machine. The top layer is often decorated with geometric forms or patterns. The technique of quilting began in prehistoric times. Quilting began in the United States during the colonial period.
